Montreal

Montreal, between old and modern Montreal

Montreal is a place where I have studied and worked. This cosmopolitan city with a wealth of diverse cultures accounts for one of the most beautiful cities in the world, listed on UNESCO as a City of Design. It is the largest city in Canadian province Quebec and  the second largest French-speaking city in the world, after Paris. It offers numerous attractions and festivals throughout the year, culinary tours into national specialties, tempting the shopping in various shopping centers, cozy boutiques, and art exhibitions in various forms. During hot summer, models that showcase latest trends on the moles will fascinate you in downtown of the city that is regarded as a mecca of fashion. You will walk along historic architectures behind which majestically tower modern skyscrapers. Unusually large greenery and flowers will surprise you in the heart of the city, where you can play golf, and even elegantly skate during hottest summer days. Thus, I will share with you the beauty of this city, and I will choose from Montreal’s best according to my taste.

If you decide to visit Montreal, you may fly from Vienna, the international airport to which almost every hour rides the bus from the Bratislava station, Mlynské Nivy. We board on a plane of  British Airways through London Heathrow, which often tends to have cheaper economy class flights. Arriving to Montreal in the evening local time, we will check in a hostel or hotel (2-3 stars) near the metro Guy Concordia in downtown. Tired from a long journey, just lie down and wake up in the morning. Through the open window, busy Montreal will greet us with crowded streets of Montrealers, cars, and tourists taking pictures of town attractions.

The first day, we will get known the modern downtown associated with the underground city, which forms spectacular shopping and business complexes joined to each other. Not missing the city landmark, we will visit St. Joseph´s Basilica, whose copper dome is the largest one after St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome. Next day, we will wander through the historic streets in Old Montreal, small and cozy galleries, and the big old shipyard. The third day, our attention  will be paid to a tour in the national library Grande Bibliothèque du Québec with 10,000 users a day and 2.7 million visitors in 2011, which was the most visited public library in North America. Then, skating in the rhythm of salsa, we will also enjoy coffee and a restaurant area, in the Atrium Le 1000 de la Gauchetière, on the ground floor of an impressive skyscraper. In the evening, if not tired, we will continue dancing Under the Stars, in Parc du Mont-Royal, dances of different nationalities. Next two days, we will go on a trip to Niagara Falls through Toronto, where the CN Tower with its 553.33 meters is the second tallest tower in the world offering a panoramic view of the city.

After coming back to Montreal, we will complete our last day of the trip with a tour of discovery of chocolate as an aphrodisiac at Chez Juliette & Chocolat on Rue St-Denis and Godiva in Eaton Centre. These prestigious restaurants and chocolate shops specialize in high-quality and low-profile chocolates. Pampered us with carefully selected chocolate truffles from around the world, we will scent flavours as diverse as their origin. Chocolate as a noble ingredient will be competing with the best varieties of wines with variations in different flavours.

Leaving the chocolate shop, we will buy a chocolate as souvenir gifts for our loved ones who are waiting for us in the homeland and enjoying with curiosity our return.
